Fuente’s Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario 2015 uses the same aged and sun grown Habano wrapper that is used with my favorite line, the Opus X. There’s a proprietary blend of Dominican long filler tobaccos grown on the Fuente farm and it’s all aged for 2-years.

The band is highly detailed in colors of red, gold, and black, featuring the Fuente shield logo. There’s a secondary band marking the 2015 year and a black ribbon at the foot. It’s beautifully packaged overall and it feels a bit like an early Christmas.

The cigar has a medium brown wrapper with virtually no veins and is oily. Unpackaged, it smells like cedar. I make a clean punch and it has an easy, even burn to start.

The draw is smooth and the smoke is pleasantly ample. The first third tastes entirely of chocolate and spice. There’s also a taste of herbs underlying the bolder flavors, rounding this out as a savory start rather than a sweet one.

These flavors do an interchangeable dance of which comes to the forefront and which becomes a secondary note throughout the remainder of the cigar. It’s a pleasant and semi-complex mix of tastes that keeps the interest while not being too demanding. The ash was a beautiful white and held strong so that the smoke was nice and cool throughout. The cigar canoed slightly towards the end, making it so I was unable to nub the stick, which I otherwise surely would have done. It was a solidly medium bodied smoke. I dare say a good introduction for a novice learning about the complexities of a cigar should price not be a factor.
